Karimeen Pollichathu


Serving for 2:
Pearl spot fish(Karimeen) - 2 nos
Small onions(Kunjulli) – ½ cup (chopped)
Ginger – A piece (finely chopped)
Green chillies – 5 nos (finely chopped)
Curry leaves – A few
Thick coconut milk – ½ cup
Plantain leaves(Vazha ela) – A few (Use lettuce if you dont have plantain leaves)

For paste:-
Ginger – 1 piece
Garlic pods – 5 nos
Chilly powder – 2 tsp or as reqd
Pepper powder – 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – A few
Salt – As reqd


1)Grind together the ingredients for making the paste.

2)Marinate the fish with the above paste for an hour or so.

3)Coat a few heated plantain leaves with oil.

4)Place the marinated fish over it and place the whole thing in a frying pan.

5)Keep the flame on low, cover and cook, till it is done.

6)Heat up another frying pan.

7)Add the chopped small onions, ginger, green chillies and curry leaves and sauté lightly.

8)Place the cooked fish (without the plantain leaves) in the above pan and coat it with the sautéed masala.

:- See to it that the fish doesn’t get broken.
:- Do not discard the plantain leaves as u can use it while serving.

9)Add coconut milk and mix well with the masala.

10)Adjust the level of salt.

11)Simmer for a few mins, till the all the water gets evaporated.

12)Wrap it in the plantain leaves while serving.
